STORY & JOURNAL

An omiyamairi family session at Koromo Shrine in Toyota, Aichi

I photographed an omiyamairi celebration at Koromo Shrine in Toyota, Aichi. It was an exceptionally hot day—around 35°C—so the baby’s safety and the family’s comfort guided every part of the session.

Short, comfortable, and unhurried

We did not try to stay outside longer than necessary. Instead, I prepared each variation efficiently and watched for the baby’s condition throughout. Even within a shorter flow, there was room for family portraits, quiet parent-and-baby moments, and the atmosphere of the shrine.

Smiles made together

The baby gave us a wonderful smile, helped by the family’s familiar voices and faces. These photographs belong to everyone who was there: each person’s gentle attention becomes part of the expression in front of the camera.

Small details complete the story

Alongside the formal family portraits, I photographed the walk through the grounds and the moment the family wrote an ema prayer plaque. Details like these help the finished gallery feel like a story rather than a collection of poses.

Please check the shrine’s current rules

Photography permissions and ceremony rules differ by shrine and may change. Please confirm the latest guidance directly with the shrine before the day. We can also plan weather breaks and a baby-first schedule together.
