I visited a family home in Toyoake, Aichi, to photograph their newborn together with a three-year-old sister and a one-year-old brother. The result was a lively record of the whole family welcoming the baby.
A quiet portrait for the new baby
For the newborn portraits, the baby was gently swaddled and photographed on a small bed and in a basket. We also used a simple white background while the mother held the baby, creating intimate images while keeping the family’s home private.
Brothers and sisters are part of the story
Alongside the full family portraits, I photographed each older child with the baby. Their different ages and ways of approaching their new sibling brought movement, curiosity, and affection into the session.
A home full of memories
Photographing at home meant we could move between styled newborn images and natural family moments without rushing. I hope these photographs will help everyone remember not only how small the baby was, but also how the whole family felt at this beginning.
